Step 1

In my last post, I mentioned a few New Years resolutions. Well, yesterday, I took the first step to accomplishing one of them. Last night, after work, I stopped in at Fleet Feet Sports, and got fitted for some running shoes. Yup, I'm gonna start jogging.

For a while, I've tried to figure out what I can do to get in better shape. I have no desire to go to a gym and, if I considered exercising in my home, I would be distracted by TV, the interwebs, or video games. (I am totally loving Lego Star Wars II, by the way). So, going outside seemed like the best solution. And I do enjoy running, although I haven't seriously tried it since high school.


Also, since I get up so damn early every morning, I might as well make it more productive. This seems like a good way to do that. Also, getting up early makes me feel a little more comfortable, as I admit that I'm not in shape at all, except maybe pear-shaped, and so no one will be around to see me.

So, here's the plan. Since it has been so long, I'm going to start slowly and build up to being a full time runner. Runner's World has an 8-week beginner's plan to running. It starts off as part running/part walking and builds up to full on running. I think that this will be the best way to go. I don't want to burn myself out too quickly and I also don't want my heart to explode after years of poor dietary habits. So, slow and steady, it will have to be. Although, I may go a little faster, if I start getting bored.

Now, since this is MY blog and I can do with it as I damn well please, you, my faithful reader, will have to put up with the occasional post about running. We'll still use this blog to post our latest clothing designs or the latest CafePress sales, but I want to also use this as a forum for my new workout. I figure that by making it public, I can create a sort of accountability about my progress as a way to ensure I keep up with it. And, this also gives me a place where I can record and review my own results. So, that's the plan. I start on Monday.
